Project Overview

The Broward County Multimodal Mobility Transportation Master Plan aims to:

  • Create a low- stress facility spine network of walking and bicycling facilities suitable for people of all ages and abilities, including
    consideration for personal conveyance devices
  • Prioritize projects and obtain cost estimates and create a Cost Feasible Plan and a Vision Plan, unfunded needs
  • Recommend policies to support the development and implementation of the network
  • Create a design manual for all ages and abilities infrastructure rooted in safety, comfort, convenience, and inclusiveness, and a
placemaking toolkit to provide guidance on how to activate spaces and create a sense of place and culture along the network

The proposed spine network aims to enhance walking, bicycling, and personal conveyance device mobility throughout Broward County and improve multimodal connectivity to transit, education, economic, and social opportunities.

What is a Low-Stress Facility?

A low-stress facility (road/street, bicycle facility, trail, sidewalk) is a facility designed for all ages and abilities with an emphasis on safe and comfortable low-speed  transport. These facilities have the perception and reality of safe travel with lesser impact from higher-speed motorized vehicles.

Low stress facilities connect to create a network allowing for travel within neighborhoods, between neighborhoods, and other destinations or places of interest across the county.  A low-stress facility should be dynamic and consider roadway conditions and characteristics to implement the best facility type based on those conditions and characteristics. It should also have safe and comfortable crossing infrastructure/signal programming.
